Ni Hao!

I just wanted to promote this really good website for learning new languages! As I am trying to learn Mandarin (or at least a few standard phrases and basic words) this website has been really helpful. You can see how the words should be pronounced and  how they are spelled in that language and also practice by doing different exercises with theses words. They offer learning activities for 40 different languages, for example Swedish, Mandarin/Chinese and French! Have a look here! Good luck with your language acquiring! 😉

Saturday

Today I have been taking a break from my studies, very well needed!!! I went shopping with my family and found some very nice things that I will show you tomorrow! 😉 I can tell you that two new pairs of shoes is added to my wardrobe as well as one very beautiful dress….. more than that I am not saying! Today it actually was pretty cold in Hong Kong, for the first time it was under 20 degrees!  The only positive thing with that is the fact that I now can start using my winter/autumn clothes!!! Wihoo!!! 😉 Tonight, I am looking forward to start reading my new book the golden oldie Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoj. Have you read it? I want to see the movie (2012) with Keira Knightley in the main role as Anna, it seems really good! And one of the roles is played by the Swedish star Alicia Wikander, she is so beautiful!

A good teacher

I just came back from my lesson this evening. This lesson is one of my favorite lessons because the teacher is so good! She has charisma and is always encouraging as well as attentive to all students. There is a old Chinese expression saying:

“A good teacher is better than a bookshelf full with books”

I can nothing else than agree, the teacher has a important role to motivate students and make a subject interesting. All techers out there, you have a really significant role! 🙂 Now I am going to enjoy my Friday night off, spending it with my family and preparing for my midterm tomorrow! I wish you all a nice Friday night! 😉

Nobel Prize Winner 2012

The Nobel Prize in literature was awarded to the Chinese author and novelist Mo Yan. I send my biggest congratulations to China for  winning yet another Nobel Prize! This time, China seems to embrace the prize happily compared to the prize that was awarded to Chinese dissident Liu Xiabao at 2010. I have to admit that Mo Yan was a unknown author for me, but now I am excited to read one of his books! He seems to be a great storyteller since he mixes realism with magical realism in tales located in rural China. His most famous book seems to be “Red Sorghum”, that book has also become a movie. I actually went to the bookstore today to buy one of his books but apparently they only had his books on Chinese, so I will have to wait until they are available on English! You can read more about him here.

On my bookshelf

Like I told you before, I really like reading books as well as watching movies/series. And autumn really is the perfect time for doing this!!! Therefore, I thought I might  show you some favorites standing on my bookshelf!

1. Oxford Advance Learner´s Dictionary (maybe not the funniest book in my bookshelf, but really useful when studying! )

2. The Tenant of Wildfell hallby Anne Brontë, I really love reading classics! This one I still haven´t read, but all writing administered by the Brontë sisters usually do not disappoint me! ( Jane Eyre is my ultimate favorite!!!)

3. The Single girls to-do list by Lindsey Kelk, an “easy-to-read” chic-lit that is perfect entertainment for cold days spent inside!

4. Shogun, a series about the Japanese culture during the 17th century, I thought it would be interesting to get some more knowledge about Asian culture whilst living here!

 5.  Hong Kong guide, really good to have whilst visiting here! We have actually bought a lot of guides about Hong Kong, but this one from Insight guides is really good!

6. Sex and the City – the shoebox, I do not know how many times I have seen these episodes, I just love them! If you have missed this series, you definitely have something to look forward to! 😉

Enjoy!

The Secret by Rhonda Byrne

I started reading the most discussed book “The secret” yesterday. I think I am going to like this book! The Secret is that your thoughts are influenced by the law of attraction, in other words, your thoughts attract similar thoughts. Therefore your own thoughts are the guideline for your future. What you think is what you become! Subsequently, you have the power to change your destiny. To some extent, I really believe that! Depending on what you are thinking, you interpret situations in different ways. Furthermore, I believe that thinking in a positive way will make you a more content and happier person.

“Nothing can come into your experience unless you summon it through persistent thoughts.”

Books

I love reading books! I never get tired of reading good books and when I have time I read a lot of books. Right now I am reading a really interesting and heartbreaking novel written by the author Vanessa Diffenbaugh. It is called The language of flowers. If you are interested in flowers, this is the perfect book for you. If you are not interested in flowers, this still is a really good book! Read it!
